Job Summary:

The Pediatric Retina (ROP) Consultant will provide advanced clinical expertise in diagnosing, managing, and treating Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) and other pediatric retinal conditions. This role delivers high-quality, evidence-based care to neonatal and pediatric patients, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary neonatal and pediatric healthcare team in Dubai.

Qualifications:

Education & TrainingMedical degree (MD or equivalent) with specialization in Ophthalmology.Fellowship training in Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) or Pediatric Retina.Licensure & CertificationEligible for licensure with UAE health authorities (DHA, DOH, MOH).Board certification in Ophthalmology / Pediatric Ophthalmology highly preferred.ExperienceMinimum 5+ years post-fellowship clinical experience in pediatric retinal care with substantial exposure to ROP.Proven procedural competence in pediatric retinal surgery, laser therapy, and advanced imaging diagnostics.SkillsExceptional clinical judgment and decision-making in complex pediatric cases.Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership abilities.Experience in multidisciplinary settings and neonatal care environments.

Preferred Skills:

Prior experience working in the UAE or GCC healthcare systems.Academic or research involvement in pediatric retina or ROP.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Practice Diagnose and manage Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) and a broad range of pediatric retinal disorders. Perform ROP screening in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) and outpatient pediatric retina clinics. Conduct specialized ophthalmic procedures including: • Laser photocoagulation for ROP • Cryotherapy where indicated • Intravitreal injections and other appropriate interventions for retinal disease. Interpret advanced retinal imaging (OCT, fundus photography) for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. Provide emergency retina care for urgent pediatric cases as required. Multidisciplinary Collaboration Work closely with neonatologists, pediatricians, NICU teams, anesthesiologists, and allied health professionals to coordinate comprehensive care. Participate in case conferences, multidisciplinary rounds, and treatment planning meetings. Liaise with nursing staff and clinical coordinators to ensure effective service delivery. Patient and Family Education Counsel parents and caregivers on ROP, treatment options, follow-up requirements, and long-term visual prognosis. Provide culturally effective communication tailored to families’ needs. Professional Development Stay abreast of innovations in pediatric retina, ROP research, and emerging technologies (teleophthalmology, AI screening tools). Contribute to education and training programs for junior clinicians, fellows, and residents.
